Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on healing therapy, based on similar principles to acupuncture. The word shiatsu literally translates as ‘finger pressure’ in Japanese.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu’s main contribution to health care is it’s ability to enhance or stimulate the body’s natural self –healing powers, which are innate in all of us. It’s role is to alleviate existing health problems and hopefully prevents symptoms from developing in the future.

In Shiatsu instead of using needles to correct energy flow, acupressure points are stimulated using pressure from fingers, thumbs and palms, along the energy meridians of the body. A variety of touch is used from deep manipulation of the muscles and tissues, to gentle holding positions. Other techniques used include body stretches, rotations and muscle releasing exercises.

By working on the WHOLE body in this way, layer upon layer of blocked energy (often felt as tension) is released .and it is this releasing that adjusts and corrects the energy flow. This corrects imbalances and reestablishes the internal conditions needed for the body to regulate itself.

Shiatsu is deeply relaxing, replenishes energy levels and flushes out toxins. It has a beneficial effect on all body systems including the circulatory, nervous, muscular,
skeletal, digestive and hormonal systems and it also supports the energy of all the organs.

Many conditions benefit from Shiatsu :

Back pain
Neck, shoulder, hip pain
Joint pain & reduced mobility
Whiplash injuries
Sports injuries
Other pain conditions

Migraines, persistent headaches
Digestive problems eg IBS
Some forms of hypertension
Asthmatic symptoms
Mentrual problems

Anxiety
Depression
Sleep problems
Stress related problems
Exhaustion

Shiatsu can also help more serious conditions; by releasing the patterns that may be contributing to disease as well as reducing pain levels, stress levels and generally strengthening the whole system.

Treatments are always tailored to the individual needs of a client.
